Maple, Jan 2020, Glos.
Maple is a much loved dog who was adopted as an older pup in 2020. She lives with another BMDR dog. Maple loves attention from the extended family around her and has no problems with new people coming into the home. However, she is very uncomfortable round the toddler in the family and for safety's sake, we have take the heartbreaking decision to rehome her in a home with adults only or where there are older children. Maple snapped at the child when he was pushing her, and whilst no harm was done, we need to be upfront about this.
Maple's mum says:
Maple loves attention from our extended family. She is comfortable round everyone except for my young son. Maple has had no issues with people coming to the house nor strangers visiting. She lives with a resident cat and has been used to foster kittens coming into the home on a regular basis.
Since being spayed some years ago, Maple has had some issues reacting when there are barky dogs in her space, but she is managed so that this is not a big issue for her. Maple's family advocate for her on walks and reward her with food, as this is one of Maple's favourite things. She is very food oriented. Maple's mum says that new adopters/fosters would beneft from learning how to keep her engaged and motivated when walking.
Maple has a health issue which doesn't requie medication. She has 'paroxysmal dyskinesia' - this was diagnosed by a specialist. Around once a month, she appears to have a epileptic seizure but they are not epilepsy. They last up to 5 mins at a time. She is conscious throughout.
BMDR would support Maple fully moving forward and this is why we are asking for longterm foster rather than adoption though adoption would be welcome.
